Topic: Winning at the Politics of Usability
What percentage of your time do you sepd on "political issues" at your organization? When I teach usability courses, most participants agree they spend 80% of their time (and they say "at least that amount of time.)!
The real question then, is "why do managers marginalize usability efforts--thus causing their usability staff to spend so much time defending their expertise?" As Shakespear had Cassius say to Brutus: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves, that we are underlings." Julius Caesar (I, ii, 140-141).
The same holds true for us. As usability experts we need to own what we say in a manner that wins us political credibility.
Come learn about "Winning at the Politics of Usability" from a 20 year veteran of usability consulting at Fortune 500 firms. John Sorflaten, presenter, was formerly with www.humanfactors.com. This presentation got excellent reviews from 110 people at the June UPA meeting in Baltimore, 2008.
FYI, Food is not permitted in the Library.
